SRO Motorsports Group distributes sporting fines among charitable causes

SRO Motorsports Group has shared the money collected in fines during the 2024 racing season among a selection of good causes.

The fund is drawn from GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS, the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli, and the GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club. Fines can be administered for a variety of infringements – including unsporting behaviour and speeding in the pit lane – as well as team infractions such as breaking working guidelines.

A donation has been made to Enfants Copilotes, which aims to bring happiness to children facing challenging circumstances. Young people living with medical problems and from disadvantaged backgrounds are strapped into the passenger seat of a sports car and taken for a ride around a circuit, allowing them to experience the thrill and speed of motorsport.

Great Ormond Street Hospital has also received a donation in memory of the distinguished motor racing journalist Michael Cotton, who passed away in April 2024. Michael's career spanned six decades and coincided with the majority of sportscar racing's greatest eras, including the BPR Global GT Series and its successor, the FIA GT Championship. Great Ormond Street specialises in the care of young people and is particularly renowned for its expertise in child heart surgery.

A further contribution has been made to Leukaemia Care in memory of Bernard Cottrell, who passed away in 2021 following a long battle with the disease. Bernard was among the most popular and senior members of the British motor racing community, as well as a regular in the SRO paddock. Leukaemia Care is the UK's leading leukaemia charity, providing those affected by a diagnosis with advice, treatment, and support.

Help has also been provided to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity in honour of Jon Crook, who passed away in February 2022. A long-standing British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC) member and respected chief scrutineer, Jon was a fixture of the Intelligent Money British GT paddock, where he and wife Sue were among the championship's most recognisable volunteers.

Finally, a donation has been to Pêcheur de Lune, a charity based in Belgium which focuses on improving the lives of disadvantaged children. Among its activities, the association recently took youngsters to Spa-Francorchamps where they were able to experience the thrill of motor racing.
